Course description

Art and Design training can lead to careers in all sectors of industry, besides publishing advertising and the media, or working as a fine artist or art historian. Some of the ‘industries’ you could access with a qualification in this Visual Arts area include working in; Advertising, Animation, Architecture and stained glass design, Book covers and book-binding, Designing carpets, ceramic tiles glassware, furniture and pottery, Clothing and Fashion, Heritage – Gallery and museum work, Art History or restoration of artefacts, The Environment and its design, Education, Film, Video, Television and Photography, Footwear, Furniture, Graphic design (product, packaging, website, magazines), Illustration, Interior design and decorating, Jewellery, Knitwear, Photography serving science or technological illustration, Printing, Textile design, Theatre and set design.

Successful completion of KS3.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Art and Design or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to art and design such as an Architect, Interior Designer or Art Teacher. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
