Backstage Production, Level 2 Diploma at Abingdon and Witney College

Course description

In response to industry needs, this new specialist course is ideal if you have a passion for working backstage rather than on stage. It will give you the required skills and knowledge to pursue further studies and later a career in technical theatre. You will learn all aspects of technical theatre including: stage management, set design and construction, wardrobe, sound and lighting. Which will include working with staff and performance students to stage several productions throughout the year. You will also learn how to use industry standard lighting, lighting design software and sound in the purpose built theatre. You will have the opportunity to run the many productions the college has to offer on site as well as on tour. You will also learn how to develop stage management skills for working in the theatre industry, study the art of theatre lighting and sound design, stage design and evelop ideas by constructing working sets for performances. Study arts administration and the Performing Arts business in context and develop skills in event management. Work to an industry standard on our many productions and have the opportunity to work with industry trained practitioners. The course has a strong emphasis on practical work which relies heavily on teamwork. Students are assessed through coursework. You have the opportunity to develop, create and produce an industry standard portfolio which can be taken to interviews for professional work and further studies.


Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of 4 qualifications from GCSEs at grade D or above or Functional Skills at Level 1 OR Level 1 in Art, Design, Media or Performing Arts. A formal interview and positive reference are also required.
