Textiles at The Brunts Academy

Course description

A-level Product Design (Textiles) helps students take a broad view of Design and Technology. The specification also helps them develop their capacity to design and make products and appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing.

This four-unit specification requires students to develop their ability to design and make a product (or in the case of AS, a number of smaller products) in both years of the course.

Students will study and investigate all aspects of the design, manufacture and history of textile design and will create personal design portfolios that record their work through the design process. AS develops their understanding through a range of processes and mini design projects while A2 allows students to pursue their own personalised design brief through an extensive design and make project

Entry requirements

You should be an independent, self-motivated learner and enjoy both the design and manufacture of textile products. You will need good textile design and manufacturing skills.

You should enjoy and be good at planning your own learning, problem solving, working with others, and spoken communication.

The following are also important: an aptitude for the use of information technology, and the ability to express your ideas in writing.
