English Language at Carlton le Willows Academy

Course description

The course looks at many practical examples of spoken and written language and gives you the tools to analyse them. You will be able to follow your own interests to some extent and will be able to reflect and comment on language use.

AS: Unit 1 Categorising Texts. Introduction to the study of language, looking at both spoken and written texts. It also covers three topics:

Language and Power,

Language and Gender and

Language and Technology

Unit 2 Creating texts - coursework. Students produce writing in different genres and for different audiences and purposes

A2: Unit 3 Developing Language. Child Language Acquisition and Language Change

Unit 4 Investigating Language – coursework. A language investigation and an informative media text.
