Painting and Decorating Diploma Level 3 at City College

Course description

The Diploma level 3 course is for those who have already been successful in achieving a Level 2 qualification in Painting & Decorating, or who are able to demonstrate considerable experience of Painting & Decorating skills prior to joining the course. Achievement of this qualification will enable the learner to more towards employment in the painting & decorating trade and to NVQ training.

Course content

You will study a combination of practical and theoretical modules to form a skills base and understanding of the trade. You will study a number of units, including:-
removing and replacing items; storage of materials; interpreting information; selecting materials, components and equipment; sanding using power tools; stripping surfaces of paint and paper; preparation of surfaces; health and safety; basic coverings to walls

Entry requirements

As a guide, learners should be able to work at a level equivalent to GCSE Mathematics and English at Grades A-E. All learners must pass an assessment test as part of an interview, and will have already achieved a Foundation Construction Award or City & Guilds 6217 prior to joining this course. To successfully complete the full qualification it is necessary for you to achieve 90% attendance.


You will be required to complete a number of formal practical assessments, knowledge tests, an on-line computer based multiple choice test, and compile a portfolio of work as you go along. Assessment is continuous throughout the duration of the course. All elements must be successfully achieved in order to gain full certification.

Financial information

All students pay a non-refundable Administration Fee of £10.00 regardless of status. The course fee is £4,950.00, including Admin Fee. Equipment and materials are provided free of charge, however, should you wish to pursue your learning in more depth, you may be advised to purchase one or more text books from a recommended reading list.
