16 - 19 Study Programme at Malvern Hills College

Course description

South Worcestershire College is responsible for providing the Study Programme for all students.

What does this mean?

Vocational Qualification

All students will undertake an appropriate vocational qualification. This will ensure students will develop both their practical skills and their underpinning knowledge. The subject areas will be those felt most appropriate to enable the students to gain employment on completion of their qualification and will vary at different levels.

English and Mathematics

Alongside the vocational qualification, students will continue to develop their English and mathematics skills. All students who have not yet achieved their GCSEs in English and/or mathematics will be able to resit it, or work towards resitting it. Those that have already achieved the grade A* - C in both English and mathematics will undertake an Enterprise qualification to improve their employability skills.

Work Placement

Work experience will form an essential part of the 16-19 Study Programme for students. As such, students will be expected to undertake meaningful work experience to give them a valuable experience of the work environment and develop their employability skills.

Finding employment is a skill students will develop, and they can start this progress from day one. They should treat this process like they are looking for a job and need to remember that every 16-19 year old in the country will be doing the same thing, so competition will be high.
