Health and Social Care Applied A Level at William Howard School

Course description

Why you should follow this course

If you are someone who is interested in working in a caring profession or within early years, this is an excellent course. You will learn about a range of skills including communication, confidentiality, interview technique, group interaction and research, all of which are vital skills for health and care professionals.

Course content

YEAR 12 

Unit 1. Communication in care setting (coursework)

Unit 2. Promoting good health (coursework)

Unit 3. Promoting quality care (exam)

YEAR 13 

Unit 4. Care practice and provision (coursework)

Unit 5. Child Development (coursework)

Unit 6. Understanding human behaviour (exam)



The majority of units are internally assessed. You will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence based on a set task. Two units are externally assessed in the form of written examinations. The examinations are available in June.

Future opportunities

Health and Social Care is an ideal qualification for students who want a broad background in health and social care that will allow them to progress to Further and Higher Education and employment.
