Biology AS/A Level at The Open Academy

Course description

A-level Biology is a highly regarded and academically rigorous course for any student who has a passion for biology or who wishes to take part in further study in biological and medical sciences.

The course builds on the knowledge gained at GCSE with a much more detailed study of key concepts. Biological molecules, such as the proteins that make-up and control all living organisms, will be studied in depth. We will go back inside cells to get a true idea of their complexity and purpose. Finally we will look at the genetic information that makes us who we are, as individuals and species, and how we interact with other life on Earth.

Biology is a practical subject and, at the Open Academy, students will be provided with numerous opportunities to use investigative study to support the theory and concepts of biological sciences.

The AS course will then allow students to complete and A-level in biology as the start of a potential career in science and medicine.
