English Language at The Fallibroome Academy

Course description

The AS and A Level English Language course develops the analytical and original writing skills acquired during the GCSE course, whilst introducing fascinating new theoretical areas.
Why study English Language? English has become the most global of languages: the lingua franca of business, science, education, politics and entertainment. Its rich and ever-changing vocabulary is explored in conjunction with social and historical change. Grammar is explored in great depth and used as a means of analysing a variety of texts. Students also consider a number of exciting concepts. For example, how does a child learn to speak? How do men and women use language differently? Why are accent and dialect connected to notions of power?
