Football Academy Diploma Level 3 (Male) at Birmingham Metropolitan College (BMET)

Course description

Our Football Academy is run in association with Kidderminster Harriers Football Club and combines the opportunity to develop your football skills and achieve a recognised sports qualification. You will study in newly refurbished classrooms at Stourbridge College’s Centre of Sporting Excellence, Brintons Field in Kidderminster and will train four times a week on the same pitches as Kidderminster Harriers First Team as well as competing in a number of leagues including the Conference Youth League, the Midweek Floodlit League and British Colleges Sport League. To study at the Football Academy you will need to apply on line and you will also need to take part in football trials as part of your application process. If you love sport and learning about how to improve your performance then this is the course for you. Building upon what you have learnt at school, this one year course will mix both the practical and theoretical aspects of sport and develop your understanding and knowledge across a range of subject areas. It will both challenge you and inspire you to learn more about how you can develop your own sporting performance and that of those around you. Throughout the course you will learn about how your body works and how your mind and thinking will affect your performance. You will also learn about how you can both train your body and test it to discover just how fit you actually are.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above including English or maths alternatively you will have a level 2 Diploma with Merit or Distinction grade in sport. This course is offered as a subsidiary diploma, 90 credit diploma and extended diploma and you will be placed on the right level for you following your interview. Please note that the offer of a place on the Academy course is also subject to you successfully completing a football trial. Assessment

The course is assessed through a variety of different methods including assignments, presentations, set tasks and an externally set written exam.

Future opportunities

You can progress to a Level 3 and Extended Diploma in Sports, Development, Coaching & Fitness. You may look for employment in the sports industry looking at Leisure assistant posts or coaching. Others may look to use the course to apply for other sport related qualifications maybe in Fitness or Coaching.
