Animal Care (Retail) Level 3 Apprenticeship at Strode College
Many consider working with animals to be one of the most fulfilling roles within the land based sector. You could work in a variety of settings with a range of different animals. You might work with the health, welfare, handling and supervision of small animals, in areas such as dog grooming, animal care, dog handling for the uniformed services or in a pet shop or kennels.
Your apprenticeship will vary depending on your employer, but you could learn about:
- health checking
- basic animal training
- transporting animals
- watering and exercising animals
- advising customers and owners
- maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
Each Apprenticeship Framework includes its own specific qualifications for the role and area of business that you work in, but all Apprenticeship Frameworks include Functional Skills in English and Maths and Employment Rights and Responsibilities.
The level of Apprenticeship you can undertake will depend on your current skills and qualifications and the role offered by the employer.
You could train in roles such as:
- animal/dog groomer
- pet shop assistant
- animal care assistant
- dog handler (Uniformed Forces)
- animal boarding assistant
- zoo/animal keeper
- animal/dog trainer
- dog warden
- animal management technician.
