IT BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Preston's College

Course description

Delivered through our innovative project based learning method, this course will enable you to build on your working knowledge of computers. You will learn by completing a range of activities and practical tasks (both hardware and software) related to the assembly and maintenance of personal computers. This includes fault diagnosis and repair as well as essential networking skills.

Due to the practical nature of this course, any additional time spent practicing your skills outside of College is highly encouraged and will no doubt help you achieve a better understanding

Course content

Units of study include:

– Communicating in the IT industry
– Working in the IT industry
– Computer systems
– Installing computer hardware
– Installing computer software
– Website development
– Setting up an IT network

Entry requirements

You need four GCSEs at grade D or above including English and maths.

Assessment

Assessment is through a combination of portfolio work and exams.

Future opportunities

This one year course provides an excellent foundation for further study or employment. On completion you may enrol on a more advanced course such as the Advanced Networking (Cisco CCNA) or a HNC or Foundation Degree or University Certificate in Computer System Essentials.
