Administration (Business Professional) Level 2 Diploma at Isle of Wight College

Course description

This qualification provides students with a high quality, industry-recognised qualification. It provides valuable opportunities for individuals to develop skills and gain underpinning knowledge and understanding in administration and business, which will support entry into the business and administration workplace.

Course content

The units you will undertake cover a range of topics, examples of which are shown below:

  • Working in office administration
  • Handling diary systems
  • Written business communication
  • Organise meetings
  • Making and receiving calls
  • Career planning in administration
  • Communicate with customers
  • Supporting recruitment and selection
  • Welcoming visitors
  • Financial transactions
  • Teamwork in administration

Alongside the main qualification, learners will study a Level 1 AAT access course from the Association of Accounting Technicians. This short, introductory course teaches beginners the essential skills required in accounting.

Entry requirements

Students should have at least one of the following:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade D or above including English and Maths GCSE or equivalent
  • Other related level 1 or 2 qualifications including English and Maths GCSE at Grade D or equivalent

Current Isle of Wight College students must have successfully completed Functional Skills from their previous course and must have attendance of 87% or higher, evidence of recent academic study, good interpersonal skills, the ability to work with others, a commitment to, or an interest, in a career in the Administration sector. 


This course is focused on developing your skills and knowledge in terms of business and office administration, therefore assessment is via practical activities and assignment based work within administration and business fields. A high level of spelling, grammar and punctuation are essential in administration, and these aspects will be focussed upon throughout the assignment work for the course.

Financial information

£75 materials fee which will cover enrichment activities/trips plus an end of year celebration event.

Future opportunities

This course is endorsed by the Council for Administration, the sector body for business and administration. Students can follow several pathways including progression to Level 3 Administration or Level 3 Diploma in Business, however, it is primarily designed for those wishing to go into Administrative roles such as:

  • Office Assistant
  • Receptionist
  • Personal Assistant (PA)
  • Administration Officer
