Further Mathematics A Level at Cedars Upper School

Course description

This course is studied alongside Mathematics A level in both Years 12 and 13. More topics are studied in more depth from the selection available in Pure, Statistics, or Mechanics.
You MUST do A level mathematics as well as further maths.

Course content

More mathematics in more depth.
Topics bring abstract ideas in mathematics into the classroom and students will learn about the wider applications possible as they acquire greater knowledge.

Entry requirements

Students must have studied the subject at GCSE and it is suited only to the very able mathematicians (those certain to get a grade 8 or 9 at GCSE) who are particularly excited by the subject.

Assessment

The choice of topics will depend on the teaching staff and also the students’ interest.
Examinations will be taken comprising of pure and applied topics. There are two 70 mins exams for students studying AS further maths and three 90 mins exams for students studying the full A level.

Revision guides available for specific topics. Cost: £5 each
Students will need to purchase the Further Pure Maths text book for year 1 (current price is £13) A text book for other modules and for year 2 will also need to be purchased. (Prices TBC)

Employers and universities think highly of Mathematics A levels (both Maths and Further Maths) and these A levels will support many different degree level courses.

Further information

Further maths A level provides an excellent foundation for those wishing to study mathematics at university and indeed covers much of the work of the first year of undergraduate study.
