A Level English Literature at The King's Academy

Course description

This A-Level will comprise 4 units, 2 at AS level and 2 at A2 level. We are currently following AQA specification B for Literature.

AS Level Unit 1 (60% of AS by examination, 30% of A level) Aspects of Narrative – this Unit requires students to study 4 texts: 2 novels written after 1990 and 2 poetry texts written between 1800 and 1945. The exam requires students to answer 2 questions based on all 4 texts.

Unit 2 (40% of AS by coursework, 20% of A level) Dramatic Genres – this Unit will require students to study 2 plays, at least one of which must be by Shakespeare, and produce 2 pieces of coursework based on the texts.

A2 Unit 3 (30% of A level by examination) Texts and Genres – this Unit will require students to study a minimum of 2 texts on a theme and answer 2 questions in the examination based on those texts.

Unit 4 (20% of A level coursework) Further and Independent Reading – this Unit will require students to study a minimum of 4 texts, including an anthology provided by AQA, and write 2 pieces of coursework relating to texts studied.

Entry requirements

At least a grade B at GCSE.
