Fashion Retail Level 3 Diploma (90 Credit) at Aylesbury College

Course description

This is the first year of a two-year programme. Year One of the Subsidiary Certificate in Fashion Retail feeds directly into the Year Two Extended Diploma. This creative programme explores all aspects of Fashion Retail in both practice and theory and connects it with the world of retail.

Course content

The programme gives you the knowledge, understanding and specialist skills including: pattern cutting, garment construction, fabric manipulation, fashion design both historic and contemporary, window display and retail design, contemporary screen print design, digital and fashion styling. You will work in specialist studios and workshops and take part in visits to exhibitions, museums and top London retailers as an integral part of the course.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at C or above, one of which must be English and/or maths, or a full Level 2 qualification at Merit grade or above, plus a portfolio of work.


All modules are internally assessed through a broad range of projects and are subject to external moderation. Assignments include a variety of assessment methods, including exploratory work, case studies and industry inspired outcomes.

Financial information

There is an annual studio fee of £200 which is used to provide course materials needed in classes, individual portfolios, toolbox with sewing kit as well as contributing to educational trips.

Future opportunities

The direct progression from this programme would be the BTEC Extended Diploma in Year Two, after which a course in Higher Education or employment.

This Level 3 course will provide students with the opportunity to progress onto or within employment in the creative industries sector.
