Childcare Apprenticeship at New College Swindon

Course description

This Apprenticeship develops the knowledge and skills of those working with children aged 0-5 and assessment takes place throughout the programme. Apprentices could be in a children's centre, a nursery or a primary school. It's that flexible.

Course content

An Apprenticeship is a mix of real work and learning. Apprentices earn a wage and gain experience whilst working towards a number of qualifications. An Apprenticeship follows a Level 2 programme and can lead onto an Advanced Apprenticeship which is a Level 3 programme.

Entry requirements

There are no set entry requirements for the Level 2  programme, but we have to make sure that the apprentice has the potential to achieve the different elements that make up the Apprenticeship qualification, and that they are working at the right level in their job role.

It is a requirement to complete an initial assessment in English and Maths, and this may lead to taking some additional diagnostic assessments.

For a Level 3 programme the Apprentice must have already achieved a minimum of A*-C GCSE English and Maths or at lease one of these qualifications A*-C and a minimum of a D grade in the other, and it would be a requirement that they also attend a GCSE college course to attain the remaining outstanding GCSE to an A*-C level.  Failure to do this will mean that the Apprentice will not be licensed to practice.

A portfolio of evidence, which will contain detailed assessment reports from the assessor/tutor.

There are external tests for the Skills elements.

Future opportunities

  • Advanced Apprenticeship
  • Foundation Degree
