IT Professional Advanced Apprenticeship at Colchester Institute

Course description

This programme is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to work within an IT environment. Learning through practical and theory sessions at College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve the Advanced IT Professional Apprenticeship.

Course content

QCF Diploma Level 3. Core units:

  • Develop Own Effectiveness and Professionalism
  • Health and Safety
  • Interpersonal and Written Communication
  • Software Installation and Upgrade
  • System Operation

Specialist pathways depending on IT career including:

  • Web Specialist
  • Software Developer
  • Technical Support
  • Networking

As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills Level 2/GCSEs in English, maths and ICT.

Entry requirements

Successful completion of a relevant level 2 qualification, or five GCSEs (grades A*- C), including English, Maths and ICT. Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of ICT and be able to discuss why they wish to do this. Students will need to be committed to their study and be responsible for their own learning. It will be necessary to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and to complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy. Students on this course must be employed in a suitable work placement, where they are using a variety of more complex tasks in IT applications, daily.

Future opportunities

Career pathways may include web developer, network planner or network engineer.

Higher education opportunities may include the Certificate of Higher Education in Computing Solutions and HNC in Computing and Systems Development at Colchester Institute.
