Physical Education at Retford Oaks Academy

Course description

To provide candidates with valuable skills and a broad range of knowledge in Sport and Physical Education and follow a pathway to further study or employment in a sporting vocational area. Encourages the development of different methods of enquiry to the relationship between theory and practical by way of a multi-disciplinary approach.

3 Units at 'AS' level, including:

Unit 1 - 60% of total grade. This unit is externally assessed by means of a 2 hour written paper.

Unit 2 - 40% of total grade. Acquiring, developing and evaluating practical skills in Physical Education. Candidates will be assessed in performing two chosen activities and evaluating and planning for the improvement of performance. Unit 3 - Coaching/leading one chosen activity from two different activity profiles.

2 Units at 'A2' level, including:

Unit 1 - Principles and Concepts Across Different Areas of Physical Education: Candidates will study three out of a possible five areas. This unit is externally assessed by means of a 2 1/2 hour written paper.

Unit 2 - Acquiring, Developing and Evaluating Practical Skills in Physical Education: Including performing one chosen activity and coaching/leading one chosen activity from one of the activity profiles.

Entry requirements

AS': At least grade B in GCSE PE / At least a merit in BTEC 'A2': At least grade D in 'AS'
