English Language and Literature A Level at Weston College

Course description

How much do you know about and appreciate the most widespread language on the planet? You will explore many examples of prose – novels, formal and informal speech, newspapers as well as different readers and audiences.

You will do your own original writing and study literary texts including Shakespeare. Group discussion forms a large part of this course, and you will have plenty of scope for your own creative work.

Course content

  • Exploring novels, poems and drama to inspire your own creative writing
  • The close study of one novel
  • The study of spoken language.

Entry requirements

At least five GCSEs at grade A*-C, including English language.


You will be assessed through exams (80%) and coursework (20%).

Future opportunities

  • A Degree at university
  • Careers could include journalism, advertising, publishing and public relations.
