Further Mathematics A level at Davenant Foundation School
You will learn about mathematical proof, matrices, complex numbers and first order differential equations.
The decision mathematics will cover how to use algorithms and linear programming in analysing real world problems and will examine networks and use graph theory.
The mechanics section covers work, energy, power, motion of projectiles, motion in a circle and collisions. You will develop the skills to solve problems involving elastic strings and springs, and simple harmonic motion.
Your calculus skills will be developed further, including differential equations and you will also revisit topics such as numerical methods and complex numbers in greater detail.
5 GCSE’s including English language at A*-C (or 4-9), Grade 8 or higher at GCSE Mathematics.
If you are thinking about studying mathematics, engineering or physics at university, you are advised to take Further Mathematics at A Level.
It will assist your study in any of the science subjects and is essential if you are considering a career in physics or engineering.
Some universities give lower offers for mathematics based degrees if Further Mathematics A Level is included.
