Catering Level 2 Block A at Homewood School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

Students are given the opportunity to complete a Level 2 qualification in Catering. Students will either study the BTEC or City & Guilds qualification, dependent on their needs.

In the City & Guilds course, you will cover all the basic cooking styles and skills need to start your career as a chef. Also you will look at the job opportunities and skills that are needed to get the jobs. You will gain a Food Hygiene qualification as well as looking at nutrition and special diets. The assessment for the course is a series of small practical assessments and 2 large assessment cooking a variety of dishes. Units include employability, food safety, health & safety, an introduction to healthier foods and special diets and the preparation and cooking of a range of foods.

The BTEC level 2 course will look at the hospitality industry as a whole with all the different sorts of outlets available. You will look at the jobs that are available and the work skills needed to succeed in. You will look at basic Food Hygiene and Health and Safetyand cook a range of dishes over the year. In one unit you will plan, cook and review a nutritious 2 course meal. Units include: Investigating the Hospitality trade, Work Skills in the Hospitality Trade, Food safety and Health and Safety in Hospitality and Planning preparing and finishing food

Entry requirements

No formal entry qualifications are required for Level 2 courses but we would rather students have studied BTEC L2 catering for basic skills and hygiene awareness.
