BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Biomedical Science at St John Rigby College
vThe BTEC National Extended Diploma Biomedical Science is a two year advanced course which will give you an in-depth understanding of medical science. This course is equivalent to three A levels and is designed to provide a specialised work- related qualification across all areas of Science. It is perfect if you want to pursue a career in the field of science, such as biology, operating department practitioner, audiology, paramedics, nursing, pharmacy, biomedical science, food science, psychology and physiotherapy.
This course is practical with most sessions including lab work or computer based research making use of the college learning resources. Over the two years there are 13 units to be completed, including the 7 mandatory units.

College entry to include GCSE Science minimum grade 4,4 or BTEC equivalent and GCSE Mathematics 4 (please refer to the Entry Requirements section page 30 for further details).
There is a mixture of exams, externally set and marked assignment and internally set and marked assignments.
This course is an excellent base for university studies and careers in health care, including biomedical science, pharmacology, physiotherapy, audiology, microbiology, food science, nursing, radiography, opometry and Science Lab Technician.
