Applied ICT A Level at Acton High School

Course description

In this course, students are given an opportunity to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge in ICT. Including information systems within a range of organisations and the main principles of solving problems using ICT. The course gives students the opportunity to develop their project management skills and their understanding of the need to work with others.

Course content

AS Level

G040: Using ICT to Communicate, 33% of AS (16.67% of A Level)
The unit is assessed through a portfolio of coursework.

G041: How Organisations use ICT, 33% of AS (16.67% of A Level)
Written examination (1hr 30 minutes)

G042: ICT Solutions for Individuals and Society, 33% of AS (16.67% of A Level)
The unit is assessed through a portfolio of coursework.

A2 Level

G048: Working to a Brief, 16.67% of A Level
Specimen research and development task, externally set and internally assessed.

G049: Numerical Modelling using Spreadsheets, 16.67% of A Level
The unit is assessed through a portfolio of coursework.

G053: Developing and Creating Websites, 16.67% of A Level
The unit is assessed through a portfolio of coursework.

Entry requirements

Prior study of ICT at GCSE level may be of benefit but is not essential.

Future opportunities

You could move onto a wide range of higher education courses including ICT related subjects at degree level. You could use Applied ICT as a springboard into an ICT related apprenticeship or job; it would also be invaluable in any future career and of benefit to you in your everyday life.
