Electrical Installation Diploma Level 3 at Darlington College

Course description

If you are interested in working in the electrical installation sector this course will provide you with the ideal platform on which to make your career choices. The course is a split 50/50 practical and theory which will allow you to learn and develop various skills relating to the electrical industry.

If you have not achieved a C grade or above in English or maths, you will as part of your course be required to work towards this as part of your study programme.  You will be given the opportunity to go on work experience at certain times during your course.

To develop your employability opportunities you may also be given enrichment classes. This may focus upon additional qualifications, industrial updating and career preparation.

Course content

This is a practical and theory based course, where you will learn through underpinning theory sessions. Practical assignments are carried out in the college site area where you will learn key principles. This course is supported by individual and group tutorial sessions.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Health and safety are of paramount importance in the construction industry and we place great emphasis on this part of your education. If you enrol on, and undertake any course in the construction department you will be required to provide and wear at all times mandatory PPE as follows:

1) Approved protective footwear with ankle support (Rigger type boots are not allowed)

2) Approved hi-visibility garment

It is also expected that you will attend college in suitable work wear / clothes; it will be possible to order this directly with suppliers during college enrolment.

Key principles of the course include:

  • Electrical principles
  • Inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Fault diagnosis and rectification

Entry requirements

You will be need to have completed the Level 2 Diploma. There is no direct entry through GCSEs.

You will be required to attend an interview at the college for all courses and Apprenticeships and we will request a school or college report.

Future opportunities

This qualification can lead to careers in Construction such as:

  • Electrician
  • Electrical industry careers

It may be possible to progress to an advanced Apprenticeship.
