Course description

Maths GCSE is offered to those students who did not attain a grade C in Year 11.

Course content

The Maths course in sixth form develops the work you have done in Year 11. It is divided into four areas of study: using and applying Mathematics; Number and Algebra; Shape space and measures; and Data handling. We aim to give our pupils a variety of learning experiences including the use of computers. that they by their own.

It is essential to build a firm foundation for future study: building on the strengths and tackling the weaknesses that are apparent from the pupils current level of attainment. Mathematics is taught in two levels of attainment: Higher which enables students to access grades from D up to A* and foundation from grades G to C.

Assessment is by written examination - consisting of both a calculator and non-calculator paper for each modular examination.

Mathematics is an important subject for career and further education. It is a subject that employers always ask about.
