Physical Education A2 GCE A Level at Weatherhead High School

Course description

This is a course offering students with a natural interest in sport the chance to study for 1 year (AS) or 2 years (A2), to gain qualifications which will provide a broad and balanced Physical Education background for entry into higher education and/or employment. The course encourages the development of different methods of enquiry drawn from a wide range of disciplines, with the focal point being on the performer and the performance. All theory work is supported with practical examples from a wide range of sports and activites. Students will combine their theoretical knowledge with practical performance.

Course content

Students must have a genuine interest in sport and be responsible for their own level of fitness. In addition, students must be committed to extra curricular sporting activities

Entry requirements

You must have achieved at least a grade C in the theoretical element of the GCSE Physical Education course. You must have achieved at least a grade C in English, Maths and Science.



Unit G453 : Principles and concepts across different areas of Physical Education.

Examination - 2.5 hours.

Worth 35% of Advanced course.

Unit G454 : The improvement and effective performance and the critical evaluation of practical activities in Physical Education.

Externally assessed.

Worth 15% of Advanced course.
