Geography at Washwood Heath Academy

Course description

You will develop knowledge and understanding of physical, humanand environmental processes,the key concepts of place, space,diversity, interdependence,people–environment interaction,and change over time.
The course allows you to develop many core skills such as criticalanalysis, independent learning, investigative research, fieldworkstudies, problem solving, evaluation, ICT (GIS), collaborativelearning, presentation skills and synopticity, whilst studying possibletopics of: Global Challenges, Geographical Investigations, Contested Planet and Geographical Research.

Entry requirements

You will need either a grade A or B in GCSE Geography to do this course.


The course is split into four units, assessed by a variety of examinations including essays,short questions and data response.

Future opportunities

A Level Geography is a broad subject which prepares you witha great range of skills to use in further education or employment.Some examples of things you may do are: teaching, townand transport planning, marine biology, tourism, volcanology,weather and climatology,ecology, law, architecture, hazardassessment or journalism.
