Geology at James Calvert Spence College

Course description

Geology gives the students the opportunity to study geological processes that operate at and below the earth’s surface, to look at the evidence of past life and the uses made of geological materials. Following this course you will learn about the processes and products that form our planet and its rocks. AS units include global tectonics and geological structures and rock processes and products.

A2 units involve the introduction to palaeontology (fossils) and an environmental geology covering water, energy, metallic ores and engineering geology.

Assessment is by written examination and internally assessed practical skills and fieldwork exercises.

Entry requirements

Five GCSE subject passes grade A* - C to include either English or maths.
