Information and Creative Technology (I&CT) BTEC Extended Certificate Level 2 at The Manchester College

Course description

At the cutting edge of new developments, just like the digital industry itself, this Information and Creative Technology course is a fantastic introduction to the entire sector. If you want to learn both coding and creative skills in real-life scenarios, from hardware programming to graphic design, this is the course for you. You’ll start with a look at The Online World, and learn how today’s technology systems interact with us on a day-to-day basis. Then, you’ll begin to develop your skills creating computer graphics and animation, working with tools, software and coding techniques used in the creative and digital industries, like Photoshop, Illustrator, HTML 5 and CSS 3. Looking at how games and different types of multimedia are developed, and how operating systems work across different platforms, you’ll be building your own portfolio of skills and work across a wide selection of technologies, setting the path for an exciting future career in the industry.

Entry requirements

You’ll need to have 5 or more GCSEs to enrol on this course, including both Maths and English Language. Theses should all be at grade D or above, with at least one at grade C.

Assessment

Each unit on this course will be assessed in a different way, with tasks that could include role plays, project work, written coursework or presentations. For two of them, you’ll need to sit some online exams.

Future opportunities

There are a number of different Level 3 courses you could continue onto after completing this course at The Manchester College. You could stay with a wide, all-encompassing study of Digital Technologies, or you could focus on Computer Science Solutions or Mobile Application Development.     • Northenden Campus is a large, welcoming campus, offering a wide range of courses for school leavers, apprentices, adults and university-level students. We’ve invested £2 million in the campus to make it a great place to study vocational and academic courses.       Local area

      Northenden is a suburb of south Manchester. There are shops, a supermarket, restaurants and takeaways 15 minutes’ walk from the campus in central Northenden. There are also a small supermarket and shops closer to the campus. Northenden is surrounded by green space. The campus is minutes away from Gib Lane Wood and Wythenshawe Park which includes a community farm. It is also close to the Mersey Valley nature reserve; a riverside walk through miles of countryside and parkland.
