Drama and Theatre studies at King Alfred's Academy

Course description

For AS Level Drama, students will take part in the production and interpretation of a text in performance. Students will work as a performance company to produce and perform a play. Students will explore a play from rehearsal to performance through the perspective of actor and director.

At A2, the students are expected to work independently. Students will work in a group to either devise an original piece of theatre or present their own interpretation of a script to an audience


AS - Students will study a variety of set texts from the perspective of actor, director and technician. Students will explore two plays through practical work and written coursework and will develop skills in workshop performances.

A2 – Two plays will be studied in preparation for the written exam and students will be expected to have an understanding of theatre history and how to interpret a script in performance from the point of view of a director.

Entry requirements

Typically students need at the very least 5 or more GCSE’s at grade C or above to be successful on an Advanced Course. There are more than 30 subjects to choose from though some may require more than a C grade.
