Mathematics (Core) Level 3 Certificate at Hove Park School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

The course is aimed at students who achieve an A* to C in GCSE maths but do not wish to study AS or A-level maths. Core Maths will be suitable for students who are taking A Levels in non-maths subjects, to allow them to develop the skills needed to solve the mathematical problems arising in their studies, in employment or in everyday life.

Entry requirements

A minimum of a C grade in Maths GCSE.


This course will be assessed through two 1 hour 30 minute examinations that will take place at the end of the year.

Future opportunities

Core Maths is likely to be particularly valuable for students progressing to higher education courses with a distinct mathematical or statistical element such as psychology, geography, business and management or for any student aiming for a career in a professional, creative or technical field.
