IT: Level 1 BTEC Certificate for IT Users & WorkSkills at Calderdale College

Course description

An ideal course if you are interested in working in an IT related field such as office work, but need to develop your skills and understanding of employment opportunities. You will learn about the types of jobs that are available, who you might work for and what working will be like.

The course involves learning to use a computer for business activities, developing an understanding of how computers work, how to use the internet. It will also develop personal skills such as personal financial management. This course is delivered in conjuntion with Entry 3 Workskills.

Course content

Teaching is delivered in a formal class setting using a range of methods including lectures, practical exercises, project work, tutorials and group work.  You may be required to undertake a work placement.

Entry requirements

An introductory course suitable for beginners. School leavers should aim for at least 4 GCSEs at grades E-G including  Maths and English.

An interview with specialist tutor.

Assessment

This course is assessed entirely through coursework.  This coursework is internally set and marked.  It is then externally verified by the examining body.

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived.  Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.

Future opportunities

This course can lead to employment within the IT and Business Administration sector as well as progression onto: BTEC Diploma for ICT Practitioners; BTEC Diploma in Retail or BTEC Diploma in Business
