Public Services BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate at Bromley College of Further & Higher Education
The BTEC Level 2 in Public Services is a one year course and is designed to give students the opportunity to gain a realistic idea of what a career in the Public Services can offer. If you are thinking of a career in a the Public Services this course may be the one for you. Students will have the opportunity to visit a variety of Public Services and will also gain knowledge of the industry from a wide range of speakers.
To be successful in this industry, it is important to have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to communicate with a range of people, have a commitment to develop your own personal qualities, be enthusiastic, energetic and have a keen interest in developing skills and techniques.
The course includes:
- Public Service Skills
- Land Navigation by Map and Compass
- Uniformed Public Services Employment
- Career Planning for Public Services
- Improving Health & Fitness for Entry into the Uniformed Public Services
In addition to the main qualification, all students are required to study Functional Skills.
- 4 GCSEs, grades A*-D or equivalent.
- Compulsory attendance at a Public Services Information Event
- Applicants must also attend a taster day which is usually at the beginning of July.
Continual assessment throughout the year, and a number of assignments both written and practical. Students are required to complete a portfolio containing evidence of assignments, practical performance, presentations, group exercises and discussions.
Students are given plenty of help and direction from staff and are encouraged to undertake their own research and additional reading.
There will be a cost for uniform which are to be confirmed. All additional trips and visits must be paid for prior to the event.
Students who achieve a Merit AND have a good student profile throughout the year may have the opportunity to progress on to our Level 3 programme, whilst others may wish to apply to any of the Public Services.
The course is a combination of theory and practical teaching and you must be prepared to participate fully in all aspects of the course. Personal development is an important aspect of the course, and students must be prepared to improve in areas such as fitness, teamwork skills and confidence.
You should be willing to show real commitment to participation in course activities and assessment. You will need to be determined, and open to new experiences, and be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in the Public Services.
