Course description

The BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport offers a fantastic opportunity to work hard and play hard. As well as achieving an excellent grade (in Summer 2015 our students achieved 100% pass rate with 95% high grades), you will also have the opportunity to learn in a dynamic and engaging way. The BTEC Sport course at KGV has a balanced mix of practical and theory units that you won’t find anywhere else! Embedded in the course are a variety learning and teaching methods and a range of assessments- no more tests, this course is hands on and you are involved in sport right from the start!

Many of our BTEC Sport Extended Diploma Students go on to university to study a range of Sport related courses such as; Sport Science, Sport Therapy, Sports Nutrition, Sport Psychology, Sport Studies, Sports Leadership, Teaching qualifications and many more

Entry requirements

A good student on the BTEC Sport Extended Diploma needs to be enthusiastic and willing to get stuck in. This course is all about getting involved and getting ahead! You will need to be organised and motivated as this is a fast-paced course during which you will develop your sporting knowledge and pick up an array of skills along the way. However, matched with the fun of participating in sports activities, you will need to be able to focus on completing the coursework to the best of your ability.

Future opportunities

After studying the BTEC Sport Extended Diploma at KGV, the world is your playing field! Many of our students go on to university, across the country and even overseas e.g. go to study in America with a Sports Scholarship.  You can get on to any sport-related university course with this qualification, as well as using it as a progression path into a number of careers such as teaching, nursing and the forces.  Common university courses our students apply for include; Sports Therapy, Sports Coaching, PE and School Sport, Sports Nutrition, Exercise and Sport Science, Sports Performance Analysis and Sport Psychology- take your pick.

However, university isn’t the only route our students have taken after leaving KGV; you could go on to an apprenticeship in the Sport and Leisure Industry, see the world by coaching sport in sports camps in other countries, or go straight into employment with all the skills and experience you have developed on the course.

BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport offers enrichment opportunities galore! As part of our programme we include a 3 day Outdoor and Adventurous Activities Residential, trips to local universities and work experience in local primary schools. You will have the chance to enhance your future employability, through gaining recognised sports qualifications such as First Aid, Sports Leaders, Coaching and Officiating.

Additionally, why not represent the college in your preferred sport? You can play for a team or as an individual in one of our sports academies. Alternatively, if you just enjoy taking part in physical activity, make use of our free fitness suite and activities programme. Get stuck in and become a part of our ever growing sports community.
