Light Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Principles Diploma Level 3 at PETROC

Course description

This study programme is designed to further increase your knowledge and therefore your opportunities for employment as a vehicle technician.

Course content

Much of the programme is focused on vehicle electrical/electronic systems such as engine management, electronic chassis systems, transmission systems and auxiliary circuits.

This qualification is designed to equip you with the high-level specialist technical knowledge and skills to be able to work on modern light vehicles. The qualification is assessed using a range of methods appropriate for this level of technical qualification. This will include online testing, written assignments and practical tasks where you'll diagnose complex system faults and make recommendations for repair.

Entry requirements

All entrants must hold GCSE English Language at grade 4/5 or above and preferably GCSE Maths at grade 4/5 or above, amongst the 5 GCSEs at grade C required for entry.

Entrants not holding a grade 4 in Maths, but who have a grade 2/3, will study GCSE Maths and take the examination at the end of the year. Completing first years will not be able to automatically continue into their second year without achieving GCSE Maths at grade 4.

The assessment of this VRQ is made up of three components: Practical tasks, on line testing and written assignments. Each unit will have assignments covering the content of the syllabus. Students will have to complete diagnostic practical tasks, analyse their results and suggest recommendations.
