Biology at Trinity Academy

Course description

Below you will find some information regarding the GCE Edexcel Biology course. This is at AS/A2. Please note that there are some specific requirements for accessing this course.

Course content

At AS you will cover the following:
 Lifestyle, transport, genes and health (unit one)
 Development, plants and the environment (unit two)
 Practical Biology and research skills (unit three).
 
At A2 you will cover the following:
 The natural environment and species survival (unit four)
 Energy, exercise and coordination (unit five)
 Practical biology and investigative skills (unit six).

Entry requirements

You will need two Science GCSEs with a minimum of a grade B in each. This can be as follows:
 Science GCSE and additional Science GCSE - minimum grade B in both or -
 Two triple Science GCSEs from Biology, Chemistry and Physics
 Minimum grade B in Biology plus at least grade B in one other
 You will also require English and Maths GCSE at grade C.

Assessment

You will understand and learn more about the world of Biology through a range of activities and learning. For units one to five there are written examinations, and at both AS and A2 you will present written reports.
 
At AS you will be supported to choose a topic that enables you to present on a ‘real-life’ example of biology in use whilst at A2 you will report on an experimental investigation.
 
Throughout this course you will also undertake core practicals and investigations.

At A2 you will attend a residential course at the Field Study Centre, Shropshire.
