Biology AS/A2 at Islington Sixth Form Consortium (IC6)
Course description
This qualification will offer you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of the different areas of biology and how they relate to each other, especially human biology. You will be able to appreciate how society makes decisions about biology-related issues and how biology contributes to the success and the economy of society.
Entry requirements
6 GCSEs at Grade C or above. The course involves writing essays and carrying out statistical tests. Therefore these GCSEs must include:
* Grade B in English
* Grade B in Mathematics
* BB in double award GCSE science or BBB triple award GCSE science.
Assessment
80% examination, 20% practical examination.
Future opportunities
Biology will provide you with the basis for a wide range of scientific and technical careers. Biology A2 is essential for entry to university courses for dentistry, physiotherapy or biotechnology. If you are an aspiring geographer or psychologist you should also consider studying Biology - you will acquire investigative and practical skills that are directly applicable to these subjects.
