Travel & Tourism BTEC Level 2 First Certificate at Chipping Sodbury School

Course description

This is a vocational course which aims to inspire and enthuse students to consider careers in the travel industry.

Students will gain knowledge and skills relevant to the travel and tourism industry.

Students will study 8 units over one academic year. The qualification is the equivalent of 3 A*- C grades at GCSE.

  • UK Travel and Tourism destinations

Mandatory Units

  • International Travel and Tourism destinations
  • Travel and Tourism Business Environments

Optional Units

  • Factors Affecting Worldwide Travel and Tourism
  • The Travel and Tourism Customer Experience
  • Promotion and Sales in Travel and Tourism
  • Organising a Travel and Tourism Study visit

Entry requirements

For Level 2 courses, students are expected to have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade G or above. All students who have not achieved a C in English or Maths will be required to re-sit that GCSE Course.


The following units are externally assessed. This means students have a written examination at the end of each of these units, featuring a combination of multiple choice and short answer responses.

  • Travel and Tourism Business Environments

Future opportunities

Students can progress from this qualification to:

  • Level 3 BTEC Travel and Tourism
  • Level 3 Business courses
  • Apprenticeship in the travel and tourism industry or any business sector.
