Business BTEC Level 2 First Award at Nottingham Girl's Academy

Course description

This course will interest:

Students who want to know how businesses work, what makes a business successful and how to set up their own business.

Students wanting a jump-start in the world of work, with a view to progressing into management.

Course content

This qualification looks at business in a consumer society and focuses on how business organisations operate, the key concepts and principles related to success in the world of business and the skills needed to work in business.

Units covered

  • Unit 1: Enterprise in the Business World (core unit).
  • Unit 2: Finance for Business (core unit).
  • Unit 3: Promoting a Brand (optional unit).

One further optional unit (to be decided based on group preferences).

Entry requirements

Usually 5 GCSEs at grades D/E or above.


You will be taught through a mixture of group work, teacher led session and individual work in order to give you the background knowledge required to undertake the assignment coursework portfolio work and the examination. The course is taught over 3 double lessons a week.

Future opportunities

As the course is vocational, it helps to prepare you to enter the modern world of work or Modern Apprenticeship. Alternatively, you could continue your studies and move onto the BTEC Level 3 National in Business with confidence, which could then lead onto further study at college or university.
