Textiles A Level at South Craven School, the Technology and Engineering College

Course description

Textiles at South Craven is the culmination of the students’ creative schooling. When working in this department, we can support you in achieving outstanding results as well as honing significant design skills and diverse technical processes. We are proud of the confidence our students display through their practice, cleverly combining fabric manipulation, recycling and embellishing fabrics, using traditional and contemporary technologies, creating innovative solutions to exciting briefs.

We are a small but thriving department of specialist and committed teaching staff, with superb facilities enabling all students to make the most of their abilities. We have a distinguished record of success at A level, and in placing students at leading universities and on sought after courses. We believe that our sixth form experience equips our students with the transferable skills to achieve considerable success in their chosen fields. The A level textiles pathway could be followed in partnership with other Art & Design courses, or complemented by a variety of options on offer at South Craven. 


A combination of coursework and an externally set assignment, done under exam conditions with some preparatory work.   

Future opportunities

Past Students have secured places at leading universities, often winning national and international competitions which have lead to careers working in the global textiles arena, such as: Tommy Hilfiger, Ace Designs, Agent Provocateur and Vivienne Westwood. Others have used their portfolio to gain entry onto a wide range of Art and Design degrees, and have pursued careers in promotion, buying, merchandising, design, photography, journalism and fashion styling.

A level Textiles is accepted by all universities for many courses. It offers a broad and valuable education developing aesthetic awareness and judgement, together with creative thinking.
