Business BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Teignmouth Community School
The new BTEC Nationals in Business use a combination of assessment styles to give students confidence so that they can apply their knowledge to succeed in the workplace – and have the study skills to continue learning on higher education courses and throughout their career.
You will complete four units over the two years. There is one exam element, which has a retake provision if necessary and also a controlled assessment for Marketing. There is plenty of time to practice and study for these two elements. You will explore features of different businesses and what makes them successful and investigate how they are structured and the economic environment in which they operate. You will then examine business markets and the contribution that innovation and enterprise make to business success. You will develop a marketing campaign through a case study. The new element added this year which is so important is the personal and business finance which has been missing from education for so long. You will understand in detail all the various forms of saving and borrowing available to you as a student and young adult, as well as the purpose of accounting and different types of income and expenditure, sources of finance and evaluating business performance. In year 2 we have the opportunity to incorporate a work experience module should that be of interest to the students. This business course has been running successfully for 5 years now and we have had excellent results but also a great deal of students who have taken a business degree at university as they have seen the practical application to their lives and enjoyed the subject. There is a possibility that this could run as a full time course as well, should you be interested in this please contact Mrs Jung and also inform Mrs Endacott.
A GCSE level 5 in Maths and English, you do not have to have studied business previously.
Business is highly valued by any employer or higher education establishment. BTEC qualifications teach you to research, write assignments and evaluate, as well as improving your organisational skills. They are widely respected as practical as well as academic qualifications. . The new qualification has been recognised as valuable by Barclays Bank, John Lewis, Peter Jones, and Universities such as Exeter, Birmingham and Manchester and many more.
