Media Level 2 at Itchen College

Course description

This is a good course if you would like to be involved in Media but do not have the grades to progress onto a Level 3 course.

This course is for you if...

...you have an interest in how the media operates.

...you have an interest in practical or analytical aspects of the media.

Taking this course also allows you to become a part of our Creative Arts Academy. 

Course content

This course provides a practical and vocational introduction to Media Studies. Through assignment work you will develop an understanding of the processes involved in media production. You will also have the opportunity to develop your own media production skills through producing media products such as radio programmes and short films. Understanding and analysing media products is another major aspect of the course.

You will learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

The course is made up of units:

  • Introducing media products and audience
  • Audio visual media skills
  • Print media skills
  • There is also one examined unit.

You will also explore:

  • Media contexts and audiences
  • The current media landscape

Entry requirements

Grades 3-1 in English and three or more GCSEs at grades 3-1 and D-G.

Additional guidance is available at interview. 

Assessment

15% external exam 85% coursework

Future opportunities

With further training or study, you may wish to progress into media-related careers or continue with a study of the media in an A Level programme.

Further information

You will be able to go on trips around the UK to visit media institutions and businesses. You will also be able to participate in writing and creating shows for Itchen Radio.
