Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship Level 2 at New College Nottingham

Course description

Apprenticeships are a great way to learn and earn at the same time. If you know that you want to be in the carpentry or joinery trade then an Apprenticeship can give you access to a real working experience, during which time you will be supported by both your employer and a team of professional assessors from New College Nottingham. 

Course content

The Level 2 Apprenticeship in carpentry and Joinery will qualify you to:

• Carry out first fix flooring and roofing
• Carry out first fix frames, partitions and stairs, double doors and mouldings
• Carry out second fixing operations
• Carry out carpentry maintenance
• Use specialist wood work equipment and tools such as circular saws, fixed and transportable sawing machines, planing machines, sanding machines and NC/CNC machines.

You will also study some Joinery Units whilst on the course.

Students will also complete Level 1 Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT and in addition you will complete a mandatory module in Employer Rights and Responsibilities.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course but your employer may stipulate certain grades or qualifications. However as a mininum you MUST:

  • Have lived in the UK for the past three years
  • Be employed in the trade and work a minimum of 30 hours per week
  • Have lived in the UK for the past three years

Future opportunities

Once you have completed a Level 2 qualification in Carpentry and Joinery you can progress on to the Level 3 Carpentry & Joinery Advanced Apprenticeship or perhaps move into an alternative construction trade.
