Elite Football Development Programme at Cedars Upper School

Course description

Participants are given the opportunity to train for a minimum of 10 hours a week during the curriculum and after school in term time. During the school holidays student will be required to train for a minimum of 5 hours a week. Students will have the opportunity to participate in games on a weekly basis in either or both of the National League Under 19 Alliance or the Southern Counties Floodlit Leagues.

Course content

The Elite Football Development Programme involves all the elements of practical and theoretical work undertaken by a Full Time Scholar in a Professional Football Club.
Students will have the opportunity to:
 Develop technical and tactical understanding under the guidance of the Luton Town Cedars UEFA A’ Licence Coaches.
 Participate in coaching sessions based around, Functional Practices, Phases of Play, Small Sided Games and 11 v 11’s.
 Develop athletically and physically under the guidance of a Luton Town Cedars Senior Sports Science Expert.
 Understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle and nutrition.
 Develop the discipline required within a team and a working environment.

Entry requirements

To have reached the Sixth Form 5 GCSE passes at A* - C entry level requirements to be able to participate in the required 3 A’ Levels for the Elite Football Development Programme. The 3 chosen A’ level subjects must have GCSE passes A* to B. If you are unable to undertake 3 A’ levels you will not be accepted. Final grades are not a guarantee of acceptance; because of the additional pressures we may require students to have higher than A*- C. Cedars School will ultimately have the discretion whether to accept or decline any individual application.

Assessment

Each student will receive ongoing assessment throughout the year. Assessment will be on an 8 weekly basis and there is feedback after every game. Each 8 weekly assessment will be accompanied by a student meeting with the Head Coach provide comprehensive feedback.

Financial information

The complete basic training kit and match travel kit and bag is valued at approximately £350. Luton Town will subsidise circa £100 of this; the player must pay the balance. Kit purchase is compulsory. Gym membership is £200 per year again this is compulsory. Gym sessions are a significant part of our syllabus.

Future opportunities

Exit routes from the programme are as follows:
 Progression to full Scholarship with Luton Town FC
 Scholarships in the USA
 Degree/Football programmes at specialist colleges in the UK, such as Hartpury
 University
 Football experience in 2nd year with local semi professional clubs
 Guidance into the correct levels of Senior Adult Football.
