Chemistry AS/A2 at Tech City College

Course description

What makes geckos stick to walls? How do sunscreens work? What can we do to reduce pollution or live more sustainably? How are new drugs synthesised? Studying A-level Chemistry will give you a better understanding of how our world works, answering questions big and small. This course builds on the knowledge you gained at GCSE and helps you acquire analytical, evaluative and synoptic skills. Practical work will be integral to your learning too.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or above including a minimum: Grade B in Maths Grade C in English Double Science grade BB or Triple Science grade BBB.


You will be assessed through written examination and practical assessment.

Future opportunities

Universities and employers acknowledge A-level Chemistry’s value in giving students the skills they need to succeed in higher education and employment. Not only in the scientific field but in law, finance and management too. It is an essential subject if you wish to pursue medicine, dentistry or veterinary science, and it could open the door to any number of interesting careers – perhaps in forensic science, pharmaceuticals, chemical engineering or research.
