Animal Care Level 2 Diploma at Bridgwater College

Course description

This broad-based course is designed to be the first step to a career in animal care. It is suitable for anyone who would like to progress on to higher vocational qualifications related to animal management.

Course content

This course will give you the opportunity to study a wide range of animal care topics including:

  • Animal Accommodation
  • Practical Animal Feeding
  • Animal Health and Welfare
  • Animal Behaviour and Handling
  • Basic Principles of Animal Biology
  • Care of Exotic Animals

Entry requirements

  • Five GCSEs in the A* – E range including English, or an appropriate level one qualification
  • Successful interview


Assessment will be by course work which will take the form of written assignments, presentations, in class open book tests and practical work. The Work Experience Module has input from your placement provider.

Future opportunities

You could progress to an appropriate level 3 course such as the Extended Diploma in Animal Management (if you obtain the Level 2 at merit level) or seek employment at assistance level in a range of settings, including rare breed farm parks, animal welfare organisations, veterinary practices, kennels and catteries, wildlife parks and zoos.
