Health and Social Care at The Bishop of Winchester Academy

Course description

This course is equivalent to 1 A Level. It covers caring for service users in a range of care settings and includes areas of Science, Psychology and Sociology. Students will be expected to complete assignments based on care settings and the workplace. Health and Social Care looks at a wide range of care settings; residential homes, hospitals, nurseries and schools. This will allow students to develop the necessary skills of career progression in the health and social care sector.

Course content

Learning will take place through a combination of lectures, videos, outside speakers, student-led research, group work and student presentations. Relevant work experience is also encouraged.

Entry requirements

Standard 6th Form entry requirements.

It is preferred that students have a minimum of a GCSE grade B or BTEC Merit at Level 2 in this or a related subject.


This qualification is assessed via 100% coursework which will incorporate individual submissions, presentations, paired and group work. The assessment approach of an OCR Cambridge Technical in Health and Social Care allows learners to receive feedback on their progress throughout the course.

Future opportunities

Students who achieve this qualification would be able to progress to higher education or training courses such as Nursing, Childcare and Early Years, Care Assistant, Care Worker, and Education.
