Course description

Studying economics will allow you to understand how the economy works, the choices governments have to make regarding taxation, and why some companies charge more than others for their products. This is just a small sample of the many questions economics holds the answers to. During the first year of the course (AS Level) you will study two units entitled 'Markets in Action' and 'The National and International Economy'. This introduction to the course will give you the skills to use demand and supply analysis to understand how the markets for goods, services and labour work. You will then learn about the tools the governments have to try to control the economy. In Year 13 you will look at economics in the context of work and leisure and the global economy.
