Goverment and Politics A Level at Stationers Crown Woods Academy

Course description

YOU ARE
A future British or world leader! Knowledge is power. This A Level gives you the knowledge to understand how government works, particularly in the UK, but also in other countries. You are a student who is interested in current affairs, who is good at writing essays, and enjoys arguing their point.

Course content

You will study themes such as ‘People, Politics and Participation’ which introduces issues such as ‘how is voting behaviour changing in elections?’ or ‘do pressure groups strengthen or weaken democracy?’ You will also study ‘Governing Modern Britain’ which explores the nature of our unwritten constitution, and attempt to answer questions like “to what extent do judges create laws when they interpret them?” and “who has more power – the British Parliament or Europe?” Assessment is 100% exam based with no coursework.

Entry requirements

A minimum grade B in GCSE English Language.

Future opportunities

Many students go on to study Politics at university. From there you might work for a national of international charity, local or national government or even start on the path to become a future Prime Minister!
